NIMS, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is a nationally recognized validator of performance through practical experiences that reflect the manufacturing industry.  Over the last 25 years, NIMS has provided excellent, industry-recognized and validated standards, credentials, and training frameworks that enable collaboration among educators, industry, policy makers and community to increase the performance of our manufacturing workforce.

NIMS has credentialed over 155,000 individuals and has registered over 2,600 secondary and post-secondary training programs across the United States. Currently, NIMS offers 64 credentials, expanding to 70+ in the next 18 months. All credentials have two components, a written theory exam to validate knowledge and a performance measure to validate competency. NIMS is relatively unique in this requirement as most certifications offered in the industry are theory-only exams

NIMS has a stakeholder base of over 6,000 metalworking companies in partnership with five major industry trade associations: The Association for Manufacturing Technology, the National Tooling & Machining Association, the Precision Machine Products Association, the Precision Metalforming Association, and the Technology and Manufacturing Association. These partners have invested over $7.5 million in private funds for the development of the NIMS standards and its credentials.
